In a move to further push right-wing ideas into mainstream culture, a company is using funds from the conservative billionaire Koch brothers to buy a portfolio of storied magazines that no one under 50 reads!
The magazines, Time and Sports Illustrated, among others, have played pivotal roles in the evolution of American journalism, but will now be used to inject a radical right-wing ideology directly into the blood stream of two million Americans who don’t realize they still receive the magazines in their mailbox each month except for when the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue comes out.
“I am disgusted and concerned that magazines I didn’t know I still get will become nothing more than delivery vehicles for the detested ideology of the Koch brothers,” says Tom Blantner, 72, a long-time subscriber of the magazines who thought he discontinued them 10 years ago. “Now, if I ever realize I get the magazines, I could open them up only to see them spouting far-right propaganda that contradicts everything I’m actually reading.”
Bernice Mulholland, 71, a Time subscriber since 1969, says she’s outraged that a publication she hasn’t looked at since 1996 will now tout positions that are anathema to her. “When I throw away my copy of Time magazine each month, I expect the words that I never read to be about things I care about,” she says. “I don’t expect the words that I never read to be about things I disagree with.”
One fear of Bill Kramer, 69, a self-described sports nut, is that Sports Illustrated will run articles slamming football players who don’t stand for the national anthem. “When I look at my monthly copy of Sports Illustrated to see if it’s the swimsuit issue, I expect the stories to be about sports and not about politics,” he says. “I don’t want my recycling bin to be full of unopened issues of sports magazines that are talking about politics.”
The purchaser of the magazines, Meredith Corporation, which owns Ladies Home Journal and other magazines that Americans thought disappeared 20 years ago, reportedly will pay almost $3 billion for the iconic portfolio. A significant potion of the purchase money is coming from the politically active Koch brothers, according to reports.
“We think it’s money well spent to add magazines that on one reads to our line-up of magazines that no one reads,” says John Pilker, CEO of Meredith. “Our aim is to be the leader in publications that no one reads, and our purchase of Time and Sports Illustrated, along with other publications that no one reads, will solidify our position as the leading publisher of magazines that no one reads.”
Analysts say Time and Sports Illustrated are on track to have zero readers by 2030, when all of their current subscribers will be dead. Ladies Home Journal and other existing titles of Meredith continue to have many subscribers based on reports that landfills across the country are clogged with them.

Corporations and wealthy individuals say they’ll pour their millions of dollars in cuts they stand to get from tax reform into the reelection fight of Republicans whose seats are now at risk from angry middle-class voters whose tax increases will pay for the bill. “We told the GOP they needed to pass tax cuts for the wealthy or they could forget about calling us again for political contributions,” says one billionaire who stands to save millions from tax cuts. “Now that they’re poised to deliver, we understand they need help. There are a lot of people who will want to retaliate by voting out of office anyone who voted for the tax cuts. Peeker has been chairman and CEO of U.S. A. Publications, which owns the National Midnight Star, since 1990, and critics say he’s using his publication as a tool to help his golf buddy win the presidency. President Donald Trump said no one respects freedom of the press more than he does but if outlets such as CNN and NBC continue to produce fake news, he’s going to be forced to take action to ensure the news Americans receive is real. “It’s not something I want to do,” he said at a press briefing today. “Believe me. I want our press to be so free and so good. In fact, I think my policy on the press is more fair than Obama’s. I’m not sure what his policy was, but I hear it wasn’t so good, frankly, And mine is better. That’s what I’m told. In a sensational claim, the supermarket tabloid Weekly National Report says a 50-year-old woman in Fayetteville, Ark., Dannielle Eggles, is the daughter of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and she’s demanding a “White House bedroom” for her and her husband if he is elected president. “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I feel I must come forward because it’s time for my daddy to stop pretending I don’t exist,” Eggles said at a press conference in Fayetteville yesterday. Eggles, a clerk at Target, said she had resigned herself to living in the shadow of her famous father and her glamorous half brothers and sisters, but six months ago she and her husband, Ron Eggles, decided she could no longer do that. “We just thought it wasnt fair that Ivanka, Tiffany, Eric, Donald, Jr., and Barron all get to live the high life while we have to scrape our fingers to the bone just because daddy pretends I don’t exist.” More.

Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes is alleging in a lawsuit that aspiring news reporter Asheigh Carter tried to tempt him into infidelity as she sought a job on his popular cable news channel. “My client is traumatized and humiliated by the experience of having Ashleigh Carter stroke his chin and breathe into his ear during a meeting to discuss her qualifications to be a reporter for the Fox News team,” John Peterson, an attorney for Ailes, said in a statement. Chief executive officers at companies in the United States are uniting behind a push to guarantee no CEO has to work for less than $40 million a year. “This is an issue of basic fairness,” says John Carter, CEO of iQuantumData in Raleigh, N.C. “The idea that a CEO can live in this country on anything under $40 million a year is unsupportable.
